Holden's 4th Birthday Party

We celebrated Holden's 4th birthday this weekend, with a party at our home and Tiny Tails petting zoo. Holden was delighted to introduce each animal, a baby Bearded Dragon, Chinchilla, several bunnies and more. That big smile made it all worth it.

The baby hedgehog Ludwig Von Hedgehog was the star of the zoo.

The tent still needs the finishing touches...the fabric will be made from a cute dinosaur print sheet, it just needs to be hemmed and add elastic bands to secure. But the kids seem perfectly content with the makeshift sheet.

Merry Christmas to you all! We just returned from the children's mass at church....we lasted 5 minutes more than last year....progress? We are soon off to celebrate Christmas Eve at David's sister's house with all our family.

Looking forward to seeing the kids faces in the morning when they see what Santa has brought. Will asked for Santa to bring his lovey 'Blue Dog' which has been missing over a year and a half, he has been talking a lot lately about how much he misses him....and even though Blue Dog is not made anymore, thanks to eBay he is returning!

This next week will hopefully be a lazy week, David is home all week and Amanda will be helping most afternoons so we may get to catch up on sleep, some reading and a few house projects. Evan want's Dad to teach him how to ride his bike without the training wheels, I think it was this time last year when David taugh Will. And maybe the kids will settle down from the Christmas high that has lasted all of December. It has been a frenzy of joy and mischief around here.

The pre-k classes were the angel corus in the school Christmas pageant. There were six songs to learn, numerous rehearsals and lots of pillow case ironing. Finally, the big day is here.

David made it home just in time to see the pageant. His flight arrived after two in the morning. He was rewarded for his late travels with the sweetest little voices. And a very impressive job by the teachers to get everyone to particiapte with ribbons and halos intact.

There has been a constant stream of festivities ever since Thanksgiving. Holden's three's pageant was yesterday, it was a 'pick up' pageant where every child can be whatever they would like to be in the christmas story...there doesn't just have to be just one Mary, or angel or sheep or whatever. Holden as you can see selected to be a king. He looked so sweet and actively participated, remembering the words to the songs. By the end when we were allowed to snap photos he had his crow pulled down and was being silly.

Holden has had been enamoured with this little girl since the first week of school, he asked her to marry him several times. She finally said yes!

We had our annual breakfast with Santa in Lakeway with Grammy Clare. The kids were excited to see Rudolph again, and we managed not to knock him over. Yea team!

The Arts

Lily's art school had a show this week. She attends weekly classes with KP, a talented art teacher who holds classes in her home studio. They are introduced to different master artists each week so you will see that influence. Lily loves her creative time and has made new friends. No surprise, she feels most comfortable hanging with the few boys in the class.

Here is our proud artist by a couple of her creations, self portrait and sunflower.

Holden enjoyed the show...and the cookies.

Lily is very dedicated in all her activities, art or school. Here she is practicing all of her letters....she studiously completed the entire alphabet.

Lily also had a dance presentation of the nutcraker this week...or as she says 'the nut show'. I needed my action setting for these photos, they are a blur but you can kinda get an idea of how much fun she is having expressing her self...and having mom's undivided attention. It was a low key, in class presentation so I got a few cuddles in between songs. Btw - her class has four set of twins!!

This ballet/tap/jazz class is followed by lunch with the theather. The boys and I watched the puppet show presentation after school. It's been a good outlet for her to have all this creative time on Monday's while the boys are in school.

Top 5 Fall Moments

Our fall has been packed. Here are a few of our highlights from falll...

1. We had our first tooth fairy visit.

Lily lost her first tooth on David's birthday and her second bottom tooth the day before Thanksgiving. She noticed her first tooth missing while taking a bath, we were out to dinner but our babysitter texted us so we had time to plan for the fairy visit.

We had rose petals from our table at dinner, so I scattered those around her and we put a coin under her pillow. We didn't have any dollar coins so we improvised and used one of the pretty Australian coins from David's business trip. She looked so sweet sleeping in a bed of rose petals, I wish I had captured a photo. The boys were a bit envious and are hoping to get a tooth fairy visit soon. Now we are prepared and have a stash of gold dollar coins.

2. Pow Wow.

Black Foot (aka Fast Runner - teacher selected this but Evan prefers to be called Black Foot so we obliged at home), Soaring Hawk and Tiger Lily.

The American Indian unit at school ended with a fabulous pow wow. The kids crafted their own costumes, the boys made shields and the girls crafted babies wrapped in a papooses. Evan's class made intricate totem poles. Their teachers are impressively creative.

3. Trick or Treating.

The kids requested robots this year, so we created these homemade costumes. The robots turned out great. Only they were easy to trip in and they kids would be stuck on their robot tummies and needed to be repeatedly rescued. At least the box prevented any injuries when they hit the concrete.

4. Soccer and More Soccer.

Between, David's game, the trip's game and Holden's game, Sundays were all about soccer.

5. Will, Evan and Lily's 5th birthday at the Science & Nature center.

We decided to keep things simple, they each invited just a couple of friends from their class and we enjoyed an afternoon at the Nature Center with a wildlife touch and learn event.

Family Traditions

Holden and I spied this gorgeous Montana Christmas tree on Friday afternoon. That night we bundled up the kids in pjs and jackets and braved the cold, wet weather to claim it. The kids sang to us on our way, joyful and loud. They have been practicing their Christmas songs at school and home in preparation for their upcoming pageant. They sang their favorite song, 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' to the Christmas tree guys and were rewarded with candy canes.

We managed to hold the kids off until morning for the trimming of the tree. They were up bright and early, with seemingly endless energy, bouncing around and chanting about tree decorating.

These photos are somewhat misleading, they convey a sense of tranquility and peace. In reality, the kids were hopping around, falling all over themselves. David demonstrated amazing focus by expertly hanging the lights with kids underfoot trying to assist and my 'helpful' pointers 'more lights, just a few more'.

By 8am the tree was complete and the stockings were hung with care.

...and admired.

Then we enjoyed a hearty breakfast as a reward for all our hard work.

I think it is the prettiest tree we have ever had.

And look, we even have glass ornaments, which feels like a big milestone to me. We have really come along way since the early days.

Grateful Hearts

We were treated to a gorgeous Thanksgiving day, blue skies and plenty of sunshine. This morning we ran the annual Turkey Trot with the kids and 20,000 Austinites. It was a great race, with nice views of downtown and a downhill second half. It felt great to cross the finish line.

The rest of the day we relaxed at Grammy and Papa's and enjoyed a delicious meal. It was a full house, there were 17 of us which made for a festive day. Here, Lily is showing me her additions to our Thanksgiving tree, the kids hung leaves with things they are thankful for. Lily is thankful for her family, kindness and happiness.

Evan is thankful that Grammy helped him mend his lovey 'Pato' and for our cats. Will is thankful for God and water. Holden is thankful for turkeys and the plants that grow.

I am thankful for my sister in law who will roll around and play with my boys.

And our sweet Cousin Jack. The kids are all stepping stones in ages...Will, Evan and Lily 5, Holden turning 4 in January and Jack recently 3.

Then it was time for dinner and Papa carved the turkey.

We saw the Magic Kingdom with GG and Audrey. It was the best day ever! My favorite ride is the Buzz light year ride. We went three times. There was a pirate ride that was fun...and a haunted house ride, kind of scary - but not too scary. I wanted to go again. We saw the castle. We saw lots of fireworks.

We had a wonderful vacation. I'm really to tired to post but we are at my mom's and off to Disney tomorrow so I thought I better capture a few thoughts before our next adventure begins. Let me just say that the beach is my favorite place to be. I love the sound of the waves, the salty air, long walks on the beach looking for seashells, the fresh seafood, the relaxed atmosphere. Bliss.

The owners were so kind, they let us stay an extra couple of nights no charge, since the next guests were not due until Tuesday. We savored our extra days and celebrated our last night with lobster tails from our favorite seafood market Buddy's...they will steam your shrimp, scallops or lobster to go. We picked up Buddy's most nights as why mess with perfection.

We spent hours swimming, wave riding and boating. David was the rafting tour guide. Our four were bouncing around, giggling, having a grand time. A man passed by and convinced Holden to get in the boat with his siblings. He only felt out once but David scooped him right up.

That smile melts my heart, what a love bug. He can be a terror one minute and a charmer the next. I think that sums up the toddler years. Holden and Evan are always ready for a cuddle with me which is nice, until they end up in a tugging fight over who gets prime seating in my lap. I'm trying to soak it up as much as I can before they get too big to want to be held. Will on the other hand is all about Dad, he got lots of special one on one time surfing with Dad and was pretty proud to be hanging with Dad, commenting on how similar they were - even the same cold after getting out of the ocean.

Holden likes to follow his big brother around, and wants the same things, the same color popsicle, whatever, if Will likes it, he wants it too. They are all getting so big. We marked their heights on the measuring wall at McBeach, they all grew ~4" over the year. Holden is not far behind the trio in height.

The beach is perfect for puppies and boys. They can run, run, run with no holding back. This is the face of pure joy and freedom.

Surfer girl Lily has her own ideas and is confident, independent and strong. She is a mother hen and calls her brothers, her boys.

We were so glad Grammy and Papa could join, as well as my Mom and David's cousin Don.

We are ready for vacation and are so excited to be headed back to McBeach. It has been crazy hot here all summer and although Florida is also warm it was 17 degrees cooler yesterday in Panama City than here in Austin.

The kids have been asking all summer if we can go to the beach house right now. They remember so much from last year and talk about our last trip all the time, the bunk beds, the 'surfing', finding shells. So they are absolutely delighted to be finally packing. And to top things off this year we will be going to GG's house after the beach and ending our trip at Disney.

I'm glad to end our summer on a good note. I wish I could say we had an easy care free summer but the heat has made it pretty dreadful. We have spent a ton of time swimming and the kids have all improved tremendously, everyone can swim 10 or more feet and Lily and Will are doing lots of diving and summersaults in water, they are like fish. But this past week or two we haven't even wanted to venture to the pool. The rest of our days have been filled with summer camps and Lily took ballet and art which she adores.

I think they had fun, but the heat made summer camps with all the outdoor activites a bit rough. They are all looking foward to being back in school with their friends and everyone in Austin is ready for fall. By late September we usually get some repreive from the heat.

We also moved my father into his assisted living aparment this summer, which was a huge job. It is a relief to have him settled and more care but there is still a ton to do to sort through his things, get all the finances in order and sell the house and car.

So for now, I am looking forward to putting work and responsiblity aside and simply relaxing and enjoying some family time. I'll be posting some pics soon, my camera has been on the brink, but I got it repaired just in time for our trip.

David took my mom and I out to dinner at Justine's on my actual birthday earlier this month. And my mom took the kids shopping for me, so I was showered with cute treats that they hand selected and wrapped....sparkely red nail polish from Holden, ballet slipper pink nail polish from Lily Clare, an expandable brush/mirror compact from Evan (doubles as toy eating monster) and a crystal embellished gold vitamin box from Will.

Here we are eating strawberry cupcakes that my mom made, my favorite. You can get a glimpse of the prints David got me for our dinning room wall. But the best treat of all was spending time with the ones I love. I'm a lucky gal.

We have had a full Easter weekend. David had Good Friday off so we kicked off our holiday by going to Sea World on Friday, followed by a big Easter Hunt and festivities with some friends on Saturday, staying late for pool and pizza.

The Easter Bunny delivered four amazing baskets this morning.

How did that bunny know exactly what each child wanted??

We swiftly got ready for church and slid in just in time. Everyone was clean (mostly, if pool water counts) and had their Sunday clothes on so I insisted on capturing a few photos.

I't soccer time. The big kids had their first practice and game on Sunday. They are all on the same team, the Little Dragons. We got lucky with our coaches, they were great with the kids and everyone had a fun first game. Will, Evan and Lily Clare all scored at least one goal, some for the other team, but the Little Dragons still went home with a win.

After art class we explored the waterside at Laguna Gloria. A big family was fishing down at the docks. The dad, David, took interest in Evan (not that he had much choice, but he was v. good natured about it) and patiently showed him the fishing rod, bait and let him cast a few times.

After a few tries Evan caught his first fish, this little Perch. Lily got to throw the fish back. David told me, "once a fisherman, always a fisherman". He may have made a convert.

Lily Clare packed her own bag with her 'colors' for her first day of art camp today. She was intently working on a drawing project when I arrived to pick her up this afternoon. Today they explored drawing followed by painting the drawings with water colors. The class rooms are along the river on the beautiful grounds of Laguna Gloria with doors opening out to decks where the kids can view the water and peacocks. A nice spot for creativity.

Three hours of drawing and painting...and after class she wanted to sit outside and draw some more. So we stayed for an extra half hour coloring and enjoying one of the prettiest days of the year.

Lily Clare's teacher recommended that we look into art camps for her this summer. She says Lily Clare has a talent and passion for art. She spends lots of time on her drawings at school and home. Last week the class drew vehicles as part of their Transportation unit, I snapped this photo of her drawings before she gave them to her friend Devin. Below is her rendition of Devin's treehouse.

I took the teachers advice and signed up Lily Clare for spring break art camp next week at Laguna Gloria - painting, drawing, self portraits and sculpting. She was very excited about the idea of art camp, but said she will need to put on something over her clothes so she doesn't get paint on her. I told her I would send her in play clothes so that she could get messy and just have fun. I think she will love being in an inspiring creative atmosphere that can nourish her artistry.

Holden enjoys sharing. His favorite pastime is managing an imaginary taco shack. Sometimes he likes sleeping in his big boy robot bed, but more often than not he prefers to cuddle with his mom and dad.

We've had a couple gory boo boos this week. Sunday, Will's foot got punctured by two tooth pick sized splinters. Luckily David was around to comfort him while I worked on extracting the wood. They went for a special ice cream treat afterwards...and I helped myself to a big bowl at home.

Yesterday Evan got injured playing 'Jail' at the park. A bathroom door was slammed on his toes. I consider myself pretty good with wounds but this was a bit out of my league so David and I took him to our pediatrician. Evan wore his doctor outfit and was super brave, even pulling off the clipped toenail himself. Yuck. Followed by, well, more ice cream for the patient and myself.

I think we've learned that keeping our shoes on is probably a good idea.

Will, Evan and Lily Clare have been learning about 'Community Helpers' at school. They were asked what they wanted to be when they grow up and it made for good dinner conversation last night.

**Update. Lily Clare dressed up as a Vet for her class dress up day, Will went today as a Daddy - with tie and laptop computer. I was surprised to see that he still had his tie on when I picked him up. Pretty cute. Evan was a carpenter last week, only bc I remembered he needed a costume at the last minute and grabbed what was avail from the costume drawer on our way out to school. He was happy though.

Evan is naturally inquisitive. He enjoys exploring mechanical devices of all kinds and learning how to operate them. Cars and solar panels are two subjects that fascinate him. His toy duck, Pato, is his most treasured item.

His favorite book is Where the Wild Things Are and sometimes Evan acts like he is the king of the wild things. He has a passion for the art of photography and regularly confiscates his parents' smartphones and cameras for sessions during which he can captures stills of his family.

Evan is an excellent climber. At two years of age he was the first of his siblings to climb over the fence to escape the backyard. He earned his first trophy by participating in WAYA's gymnastics summer series, mastering a range of equipment and obstacle courses along the way.

Now Evan summits trees, boulders, and all manner of playscape equipment. He has been honing his tent-making abilities and aspires to one day climb a mountain.

Spring

For all intents and purposes Spring has arrived here in Austin. The sun is out, we are getting warm spring showers. The plants and trees are beginning to bud, the grass is beginning to green. Slowly the flip flops and sandals are emerging.

We have been getting into the mood as well. What we've been up to...

Spring Toes. David took the boys to the hardware store. Lily Clare promptly declared it 'girl time' and requested that we paint our toes 'Dutch Tulips'. Btw - Lily, or Lily Clare announced to her teachers at school that her name is now Lilliana. At this rate she will have a different name for each year of preschool.

Spring Garden. I got tons of free consulting from our four little ones. When we went to the nursery you would have thought we were in a toy store the way the kids were falling all over themselves, literally, eagerly picking out new selections of flowers, vegetables and succulents for our yard. We finished planting the vegetable garden and a few pots this weekend, tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, peppers, strawberries, succulents and herbs. I held back a bit this year because our little garden turned into a jungle last year. It's always hard for me to get my head wrapped around how fast everything grows when I look at all the tiny transplants. Next weekend we plan to plant our flowers.

Soccer Sundays. David's spring league started up and our older three* are starting their first real soccer team in a couple weeks. Every one's practices and games will be on Sundays.

*I'm trying to stop using the word 'triplets', a blog post for another day, but in a nutshell, calling them triplets, apparently fosters their single identity resulting in exclusion, and some bullying, of others, in particular Holden.

CSA. It seems we are one of the last families in Austin to sign up for a community supported agriculture. We just joined Johnson's Backyard Garden and got our first weekly box of locally grown organic fruit and veggies on Friday. Amazingly fresh. I love the idea of eating fruits and vegetables in season. This week our bounty was the inspiration for our weekly menu plan.

Which brings me to Family Meals. One of my favorite things is eating together as a family. Since Will, Evan and Lily were about two years old we started eating together at the table, albeit not too successfully (in hindsight, not recommended unless you have a dog to 'clean up'). But we have persisted, through the mess and general chaos to eat together, for better or worse. After questioning myself for about two years, I am starting to feel like the hard work is beginning to pay off. Breakfast has been easiest since we are all together and everyone is rested, happy and hungry. At night the kids typically eat before David gets home, but sometimes just have a snack or dessert while David and I eat and we have some makeshift conversation about everyone's day.

Now I'm trying to shift their dinner to 6pm so we can all sit down together, while working on that somewhat illusive balance of serving things we will all enjoy without making separate meals. I got some great ideas from Kristin, a fellow preschool mom (Will's classmate's mom) and Schell Cafe blogger. She recommended some good cookbooks that I am enjoying including The Family Dinner by Laurie David and talked me into getting a crock pot. She has this radical idea of having dinner prepared before noon each day:) ...something to strive for.

I love our family calendar. It has a place for our weekly menus. When I fill this out early in the week it makes dinner time much smoother and helps me make better use of what's in our fridge.

Luckily, my hairdresser Farah at Sabia was able to fit Lily Clare in this afternoon for an emergency hair cut repair. I couldn't take her to just anyone, I needed bring in the big guns. Not only is Farah super talented but she was amazing with Lily Clare, you would think she had been working with kids forever. She was so sad to have to do it but made my little girl feel so special and managed to comfort me at the same time. Lily ended up with a darling Mia Farrow pixie cut. And I have a long braid as a keepsake. She spent an hour with her, making it just perfect and gave me a generous discount - '4 and under' pricing, which I am sure she just made up.

We made some wonderful memories over the holidays. I also spent much of my break helping my father, who was diagnosed with Alzheimers this year. Things I want and need to take care of for him but are quite time and energy consuming. What I thought would take a day took the better part of my week off. But it needed to be done and my Mom and me made a lot of progress towards finding him a place to live and getting his affairs sorted out.

So, I may not have been able to fit in as much rest, relaxation and time catching up with our friends. But we did manage to build on our family traditions and have some great fun. Here's an attempt at my favorite 10 holiday moments.

1. Christmas Eve preschool children's service and pageant. The church does a wonderful job of orchestrating services for all the ages. As the kids get older they have choir services and then of course the midnight mass which I love but it not realistic for our family at this time. We used to go to Midnight Mass once I was seven or so, I was allowed to pick out a present before, and would size up the boxes and find the baby doll so I could take it with me. Another favorite Midnight Mass memory was my senior year in college when I spent the winter break in Spain with my Mom and two friends. My mom and I walked down the quaint, lantern lit cobble streets of Marbella and experienced the most beautiful candle lit mass in a tiny beautiful church surrounded by the brightest stars.

Good Shepard pageant. We made it about half way through Christmas Eve mass this year with our four wiggle worms, not bad, baby steps. Typically they have Sunday School, it's just holidays that they join the service in the main church.

Lily Clare was a reindeer. Will changed his mind after the photos above and was a Shepard with Evan, ushering the two year olds decked in lamb garb.

This little lamb calls me Mamma Shug, because I have taken to calling him Sugar or Shug Shug.

2. Christmas Light tour. We packed the car with popcorn bags and hot cocoa, hot vanilla for Will who doesn't like chocolate. Then proceeded with bedtime routine and pjs, but when it was time to get in bed we surprised them with a driving trip around the neighborhoods to look at Christmas lights. I knew it would be a hit but they were blown away. We got several. "You are the best mom and dad ever!" comments.

3. Our lights. David always does a great job climbing the roof and our big oak tree to deck our house with lights. Now that we have kids we switched from the elegant all white to the more whimsical colored lights. I love those old fashioned large light bulbs that we use to trim the house and dormer window.

4. And Christmas Tree. The man at the tree yard selected this fabulous tree for us. I think the children's excitement was contagious. It was in the 6 ft section and when rolled up was nice and fat, he thought it would be a keeper and when it unrolled we were all amazed. Much larger than 6 ft he offered us the same price, we were not sure if we could even fit it in our house but had to try and we just barely managed it by trimming a bit of the top.

So naturally we had to fill it with plenty of presents. Actually, we tried not to go overboard, each child got three presents from Santa and one from GG. But with four children, that's still quite a lot of boxes under the tree. We were also lucky enough to see boot prints left behind by Santa!!

I love seeing our mantle full of stockings and the children's ornaments decking the tree. One of my favorite things to do on Christmas Eve after the kids are in bed is sit by the fire and the tree, have egg nog and relax with good conversation. Maybe get into Santa's chocolate brownies too...

8. Silly time. I love our silly moments the best. One that comes to mind is an evening we all settled down after dinner with blankets and pillows to watch 'Dispicable Me'. The movie has a great soundtrack and and ends with dancing, all the kids joyfully joined in and entertained us with their moves.

9. My organized closet, ahh. My mom organized my closet from top to bottom as one of my Christmas gifts.

10. Ushering in the new year. We started off the evening with grilled fillet Mignon and good wine. Then had a small celebration at our neighbors house, the kids watched a bit of The Grinch, and then we all set off fireworks. The big boys were most delighted and the next day at breakfast were naming all the various kind by names and picking their favorites.

Whew...that was a long one. Off to bed. Goodnight ya'll. Wish you and yours a wonderful 2011.

Lily's was in her first play today at preschool. The kids go to chapel once a week and each class takes turns putting on the performance. Here Lily is with two friends and fellow slave cast, dressed and ready for the show.

No school Monday, the kids and I had a fun, full morning. It is amazing how many things you can do by noon if you have a bunch of todders in tow...we had a big breakfast and got dressed for the day, played in the yard searching for bugs, fed our neighbor's chickens, played with the baby chicks, ran with Lenny the dog, practiced writing names and drawing bats, visited Central Market playground, had lunch alfresco, fed the ducks, fished for tadpoles and climbed trees. I'm wiped just thinking about it.

While I was not paying attention, emailing the top photo to my family, Will and Holden managed to climb to top of one of the highest branches ~12 feet high.

I said to Holden 'Come down, honey', he gave the typical toddler response 'No!' followed by giggles. I asked another mom for help and we spent the next 15 minutes coaxing him down. Once we finally convinced him to come down he would scoot back a few inches, then try to throw his leg over to jump down while we said 'No, no, no, stay on your bottom! We can't catch you!'. He had to back himself around two tree limbs that go straight up, then finally be talked through laying onto his belly (Will demonstrated for him) and I was able to grab him while standing on a bench. So, if the morning didn't wear me out, the adrenaline from the tree rescue did me in. Spa day anyone?

Btw, I'm enamored with this gorgeous garden roses Lily found at CM. We were negotiating on which flowers to buy, she wanted roses, I wanted lilies. So we were looking around for something we both liked, when she found these. They are peony-esque and very fragrant and only six dollars.

And other news, our new king bed frame has arrived. We love it, the shape and color are perfect in our room, it is so soft and comfy. Holden is thoroughly enjoying it too.

One Last Beach Post

A few final favorite photos from our beach trip. I read a book recently on happiness (I think it is literally named Happiness). Anyway, it recommended spending your disposable income on vacations rather than 'things'. The idea is that beyond your basic needs you get more enjoyment from vacations and the memories you build than from buying stuff. When you purchase something you get immediate gratification but the good feelings or 'happiness quotient' diminishes rapidly. The author found that no surprise, people gain pleasure and good memories from vacations, but that also people tend to quickly forget the inconveniences or parts of the vacation that didn't go so well but remember the good parts so basically the vacation keeps on giving or building your happiness.

Dog Bite

Lily Clare got bit by a dog yesterday afternoon as we were leaving the Central Market playground. A yellow lab was tied in front of the store and Lily went to give him a hug, he got scared and bit at her face. It happened so quickly and it was loud and very frightening. All I could see immediately was a lot of blood all over her face.

We immediately took Lily to the small Heart Hospital ER next door to CM, they saw her right away, no wait, and thoroughly cleaned her wounds and gave her an antibotic. We were lucky that there is only two small punctures on her eyebrows and no injury to her eyes. Animal control had to be called to ensure that the dog was up on his shots, which thankfully are all ok. The owner will have to do a home quarantine for 10 days to ensure that he doesn't show any signs of rabies, just as an extra precaution.

Lily is her normal happy self and seems to have fully recovered emotionally, I'm not sure if I have. It's scary how one moment you can be walking along, enjoying a beautiful day, and the next moment find yourself confronted with an emergency.

Here is a snapshot from today, she has that serious look only because I had her sit still and let me take a photo of the bite. The puncture marks themselves look pretty good but the bridge of her nose and eyelids ae a bit swollen and her right side is slightly pink. We are going to keep a close eye on it.

The scene is set for a birthday party at the beach. Robot and Princess theme, as requested. Will has been asking for a 'Candy Robot' aka Robot pinata for his birthday party for months.

Four years today we met our three babies, each with a loud kitten cry as they were born. The most beautiful sound. The first year was a blur...soon they were mobile and crawling and climbing everywhere...we survived the terrible twos or threes with all their mischeif and mess.

So far four years old is looking pretty good. The triplets have been great on this trip. They play together well, are getting much better at communicating, less whining, more conversation and imagination. They are quite adorable. Meanwhile we haven't completely escaped toddler terror as Holden cruises around looking for trouble. Holden the destroyer knocks sandcastles and building blocks down as swiftly as we can build them yet he will be the first to erupt in giggles or get cozy in our embrace for a nap given the chance. It is hard to believe we had three of those sweet but terrorizing tots just a year ago.

Cupcakes are ready. Robot and princess cake toppers from Etsy say 'Happy Birthday Lily...Evan...Will' and so we don't leave out Holden there are some that say 'We Love you Holden!'

Hello from Florida. We are having a wonderful time. It is heavenly here. Our lazy days have been full of precious moments to savor. Here are just a few of my favorite things.

Morning beach walks. Above, Will admires his shell collection and carefully displays his treasures.

Plenty of popsicles on the porch with stunning sea views.

Evan shows us how he will surf when he is bigger.

Boogie boarding, the kid's favorite activity. They will keep going until we tell them it's time to stop. The water is beautiful aqua green-blue and nice and warm so we love it too, but it takes a lot of work to keep up with the kids. The current keeps taking them up the coast, so we have either walk through waist high water or swim to keep them close by. Periodically we have to get out and walk back down the beach to the house. The kids think they are surfing. The first day, Will kept repeating with amazement. 'I've never been surfing before!' Lily is a bit too brave and will head out without making sure we are near by. Evan started out a bit timid but is now having a blast jumping in the waves. Holden will only go in with an adult in hand.

Sunsets on the porch. Evenings are my favorite time of day. There is a wonderful breeze to match the gorgeous sunsets. We eat seafood, drink wine, play music and dance.

Will, Evan and Lily Clare's first day of 3s Preschool. Same scene as last year, the first few photos I snapped Lily was standing patiently, by the time the boys looked up she was getting restless.

I asked this cutie what she wanted her teacher and friends at school to call her several times over the last few weeks. Each time she said 'Lily Clare', so I enrolled her with her middle name this year at her new school.

This was Lily Cat the night before school started, she decided to draw wiskers on her face with a permanent marker. Thank goodess a little make up remover was all it took to take it off. Lily agreed that the teacher would probably say, "No cats allowed at school!'.

Pirate Memo, already feeling inspired after one day of school to 'get creative'. He is usually a bit reluctant to draw and will say 'you do it for me' so I was happy that he was enjoying the window markers. Barely a widow in the house escaped his art and today he brought home a drawing from school.

Holden's first day of school was today. He was all smiles. Yesterday was a bit rough for him, with everyone going off to school without him. The trips will be going three days a week, and Holden will be going two days.

Proud little guy with his backpack on. No tears at drop off, although about a third of his class was pretty distraught. At pick up he told David 'I had a fun day!'

Happy 4th everybody. We had a fun packed weekend. We kicked off the festivities with our annual neighborhood parade and carnival. The triplets decorated and rode their bikes for the first time. Ah, big kids.

Holden didn't want to ride in the wagon, but insisted in pulling it the whole route - although he did take a short cut across the park. I didn't mention but he gave his bottles away to baby Hudson a week ago and is now officially a big boy. David took him to pick out a special toy to celebrate - he chose a cat piano keyboard. He is proud to be a big boy now but has been a bit of a terror, he will not wear clothes, difficult to going to sleep and generally just a mess. I think he just needs to learn how to unwind without the bottle. Hopefully this is just a phase, a short lived one.

David and I spent Saturday with friends at a lake house with a boat trip to devils cove which was hip hopping, but fine in small doses. I prefer the tranquillity of the lake house. Sunday was also full with a family barbecue pool party complete with sparklers.

Holden helped water the garden.

We took a family jog down Shoal Creek and back up to Central Market. They had a funky African band playing on the deck which made for some creative dancing for the kids.
